CNC Software, Inc. (CNC) is a family-operated company with 123 employees providing state-of-the-art software to drive computer numerically controlled machines. CNC is a progressive business leader and environmental steward that has consistently utilized energy-efficient technologies and practices during more than 25 years of operation.

In 2008 CNC built a 13,000 square foot addition to its already existing 38,000 square foot facility in Tolland, CT. The Company participated in the Energy Conscious Blueprint program, an initiative supported by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and administered by the Connecticut Light & Power Company that offers cash incentives to commercial and industrial businesses that integrate energy efficient technology into their renovations or new construction. The addition incorporates a number of energy efficient technologies that build on the original facility’s use of geothermal heat pumps as well as a 73 kW solar array which generates approximately 30 percent of CNC’s electricity, the Company’s only source of power. Among the energy efficiency features in the new facility are:

  • An HVAC system which incorporates high-efficiency geothermal heat pumps, CO2 sensors, an energy recovery ventilation unit and variable frequency drive controls on fans, pumps and high-efficiency motors.
  • Generation of domestic hot water via geothermal heat pumps. Hot water generation is controlled by computers and is only available during office hours.
  • T8 lighting with occupancy sensors.
  • Windows in every office to allow lights to be shut off during daylight hours.

All of these features allow the addition to operate on a far more efficient and cost-effective basis than is required by the energy code for a facility of its type.
