P&G/Gillette is a global company recognized as the world leader in shaving. Gillette’s World Shaving Headquarters, located in South Boston, covers 30 acres and building space exceeds one million square feet. Over the past five years, P&G/Gillette has formed partnerships with NSTAR and multiple energy engineering groups to define and deliver energy savings throughout its South Boston campus.

P&G/Gillette is serious about energy efficiency. To support a deep commitment to improving its environmental profile, P&G announced several sustainability goals in 2007 which included annual reductions of 10 percent each in CO2 emissions, energy and water consumption, and disposed waste per unit of production. At P&G/Gillette, when combined with previously established and accomplished reduction standards, these new goals will contribute to a 40 percent reduction in each area between 2002-2012.

P&G/Gillette also has a Facilities Energy Team that meets monthly to explore energy saving opportunities, which is further evidence of its culture of energy saving. Additionally, the company was the first NSTAR customer to implement an employee outreach program through to raise employee consciousness on energy conservation.

Sustainability is an integral part of the Company’s renovation of its South Boston campus, the designs of which will incorporate energy saving technologies in addition to improving the work environment and neighborhood streetscape.

Through support from NSTAR, P&G/Gillette has implemented efficiency projects, including:

  • Variable frequency drives on large process equipment
  • Extensive and ongoing lighting and lighting control energy optimization
  • Compressed air automation system and air leak maintenance program with new high-efficiency compressors and optimized controls for monitoring and managing air flow

P&G/Gillette and NSTAR continue to partner to identify new energy efficiency projects and potential incentives, and to develop energy efficient capital projects for the coming years.
