Massachusetts Airline Recognized for its Commitment to Achieving Significant Energy Savings
LEXINGTON, MA – Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) has announced that Cape Air will be recognized as a ‘Business Leader for Energy Efficiency’ at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in Warwick, RI on June 8, 2011. Nominated by Cape Light Compact, the independent airline is being honored for its expansive efforts to make its Hyannis Fleet Building headquarters a net-zero electricity facility in which the building will produce energy equal to what the building consumes. Their work has resulted in annual electricity savings of 364,000 kWh.
As part of its organization-wide commitment to energy efficiency and renewable energy, Cape Air has partnered with Cape Light Compact to discover innovative, cost-effective ways to reduce energy use and costs. In just a few months, Cape Air has already increased productivity at the facility, while lowering its total energy costs by nearly $75,000. Projects include:
“Cape Air’s net zero electricity project at their Fleet Building provides highly visible evidence of their comprehensive sustainability programs and objectives. They serve as a model for other businesses to explore and replicate,” said Nicole Price, Commercial & Industrial Program Planner at Cape Light Compact. “In a short period of time, Cape Air has seen impressive results that will save the company money through reduced energy use.”
“The partnership with Cape Light Compact has been crucial to achieving our Net-Zero electricity goal at our Cape Cod headquarters,” said Jim Wolf, the Sustainability Director at Cape Air. “It is only through the combination of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy generation that our goal could become reality.
