PTI Industries, Inc. named Business Leader for Energy Efficiency

CT Company Recognized for its Commitment to Achieving Significant Energy Savings

LEXINGTON, MA – Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) has announced that PTI Industries, Inc. will be recognized as a ‘Business Leader for Energy Efficiency’ at the Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in Warwick, RI on June 8, 2011. Nominated by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund in partnership with Connecticut Light & Power, PTI is being honored for its expansive efforts to advance energy efficiency in its manufacturing operations which have resulted in annual energy savings of nearly 2 million kWh, and total cost savings of over  $334,000.

The company, located in Enfield, CT., provides nondestructive testing services to machine shops serving the aerospace and medical industries. PTI has participated in numerous energy efficiency programs and initiatives offered by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, administered by Connecticut Light & Power. Through the Energy Opportunities program, PTI recently installed two high-efficiency, CNC-based, robotic shot peening machines which are used in the process of increasing the lifespan of metal parts. One of only a few companies with this technology, PTI was able to expand their market share by 15 percent after installation thanks to additional production capacity.

With the help of additional incentive programs, the company has also installed brighter high-efficiency lighting, upgraded an air compressor with a more energy efficient model, and participated in “lean manufacturing” initiatives designed to streamline product flow, eliminate or reduce waste, improve production efficiency and reduce electrical energy consumption.

"PTI Industries has demonstrated how energy efficient investments are so significant in a company meeting its triple bottom line (environmental, economic, and social)," said Richard Steeves, Chairperson of the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund. "Not only has the company been able to save money through reduced energy use, critical for every company in this economic climate, but it has also shown how energy efficiency has helped streamline its operations."

“Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund in partnership with Connecticut Light & Power has enjoyed its work with PTI Industries, a company which  proves that efficiency investments make smart business sense,” said Carl Santoro of Connecticut Light & Power.  “The initiatives PTI has implemented along with their continuous improvement mindset have led to reduced operating costs and increased production capacity allowing the company to maintain a competitive edge in the market.”

“NEEP is proud to recognize PTI Industries and the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund in partnership with Connecticut Light & Power for their collaborative success and commitment to energy efficiency,” said Sue Coakley, Executive Director of NEEP.  “PTI provides an excellent example of how energy efficient measures can improve a company’s bottom line, contribute to economic growth and reduce environmental impact.”
