Leaders Discuss Strategies for Accelerating High Efficiency Residential Lighting Solutions

Regional summit will address the future of lighting technology in the Northeast

LEXINGTON, MA – Stakeholders of high-efficiency lighting will have an opportunity to discuss strategies and solutions for maximizing growth in the residential market with leaders from across the nation at a special 2011 Northeast Residential Lighting Workshop, June 7, in Warwick, RI.

Hosted by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP), the workshop aims to be a collaborative day-long opportunity for attendees to network while discussing the critical issues of the impacts of the 2012-2014 Federal Energy Independence Security Act (EISA) standards on lighting program plans.  Attendees will also discuss strategies to speed market adoption of the most promising high efficiency lighting products over the next five years.

“Savings from regional residential lighting programs have been so successful over the last decade that new minimum federal standards for lighting efficiency are unleashing a whole new generation of lighting solutions,” said Linda Malik, Residential Programs Manager at NEEP.  “This is wonderful for the market, yet opportunities for existing efficient lighting products like compact fluorescent bulbs remain. At this workshop, NEEP will bring together industry professionals, utilities and regulators to discuss issues and solutions to continue the Northeast’s national leadership in speeding the market adoption of all high efficiency lighting products.”

Glenn Reed of the Energy Futures Group will give an overview of the status of residential lighting in the Northeast before moderating a panel covering the importance of EISA standards, FTC labeling and other influences on lighting products of the future and market strategies for the Northeast. Rounding out the morning session will be a discussion on regulatory challenges in measurement and cost-effectiveness of lighting products led by NEEP’s Research and Evaluation Manager, Elizabeth Titus.

A packed afternoon panel featuring Monique O'Grady from the Alliance to Save Energy, Sharon Bay from Efficiency Vermont, and Jamie Lalos of the Cadmus Group will present examples and discuss important opportunities for education and outreach to prepare the consumer market for the EISA lighting transition.

“For fifteen years, NEEP has always seized opportunities to bring efficiency leaders together to discuss solutions for making energy efficiency matter in our region and our work in residential lighting continues to show our mission to accelerate efficiency,” said Sue Coakley, NEEP’s Executive Director.  “This workshop allows for the perfect settin for leaders from every part of the industry to discuss practical strategies and related public policies to leverage market place muscle to keep the region a national leader in the sale of high efficiency, market ready products – setting the stage for national market transformation.”

The workshop will kick off the 2011 Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit June 7-8 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, RI. In addition to the pre-summit Residential Lighting Workshop, this premier annual event will also feature a full day conference with speakers and panel presentations, and an all-day exhibit area that will showcase the latest energy efficiency technologies and solutions. An additional event throughout the day will celebrate business leadership in energy efficiency and recognize nominated companies from around the region as Business Leaders for Energy Efficiency. Throughout the conference, the Summit will showcase the successes and challenges of public policies and programs that advance energy efficiency as the leading clean energy resource for the Northeast.
