CALiPER Releases Round 10 Summary Report

DOE's Commercially Available LED Product Evaluation and Reporting (CALiPER) Program recently released the summary report for Round 10 testing. Detailed test reports of Round 10 test products will be made available by request through the DOE SSL website shortly. Users of the detailed test reports must agree to DOE's No Commercial Use Policy.

Round 10 tested products of the following application categories: parking structure luminaires, outdoor wallpack luminaires, cove lighting luminaires, and replacement lamps. Also in Round 10, the CALiPER program tested four replacement lamps that carry the Lighting Facts(tm) label. In all four cases, the replacement lamps met or exceeded the performance levels indicated on their Lighting Facts labels. Lighting Facts labels clearly disclose lumens, efficacy, watts, CCT and CRI of the product.

DOE Technology Factsheets
Linear Fluorescent Replacement Lamps

The US Department of Energy is working to add new Technology Fact Sheets to an already great list of topics spanning issues from LED Measurement to specific LED Application considerations. These Fact Sheets are useful as teaching devices, handouts at conferences, and professional development materials for lighting and energy professionals.

DOE strives to create new Fact Sheets that are highly relevant to the needs of the lighting and energy industry. Therefore, ideas or suggestions on future Fact Sheet topics are encouraged. Please send suggestions through Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships by emailing tinssl@neep.org

New Fact Sheets include:

2010 Solid-State Lighting Manufacturing R&D Workshop Materials Available
Workshop Presentations

DOE's 2010 Solid-State Lighting Manufacturing R&D Workshop, April 21-22 in San Jose, CA, focused on manufacturing improvements for SSL products and components including the challenges of manufacturing LEDs, luminaires, drivers, and electronics. Some quick snapshots from the conference include:

  • 2009: overall lighting revenues down 15%; LED lamps & luminaires up 32% (session: "World Status of SSL Manufacturing," Vrinda Bhandarkar, Strategies Unlimited
  • Costs of replacement bulbs, light engines & modules, integral luminaires: prices falling quickest for luminaires, followed by engines & modules then bulbs (session: "Global Marketing," Jim Anderson, Philips Color Kinetics
  • Robotic manufacture faster and more reliable, less expensive (session: " Luminaire manufacturing")
  • Lithography for high brightness LED Mfg. HB LED. Out with the old: proximity printing, in with the new: projection lithography. Increase quality & reliability (session: " Manufacturing R&D")

Presentations from the two day conference is available on the DOE Solid-State Lighting website, here: Manufacturing R&D workshop presentations.
