The High Performance Buildings Project has been developed to promote operational energy savings in retrofit and new buildings in the region. NEEP's vision is that the work done today on High Performance Buildings will pave the way for the development of Net Zero Energy Buildings, buildings that consume no more energy than they produce, on a broader scale throughout the region.
NEEP's work in the area of High Performance Buildings has evolved from the highly successful implementation of its High Performance Schools Exchange, which includes the development of the Northeast CHPS protocol. Today, more than 50 high performance schools have been constructed in the Northeast. NEEP will continue its focus on schools as a specific building type, but has broadened this regional project to provide policy and program guidance into high performance buildings across the building stock.

In 2010 and 2011, NEEP participated in the Department of Energy's (DOE) Technical Assistance Program (TAP), which provides resources for recipients of ARRA, SEP and EECBG funding. As a member of this network, NEEP provided free online training to help improve the energy performance of your public buildings and schools. Low to No Cost Strategies for Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings
Maximizing Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings
As the regional non-profit energy efficiency organization serving the Northeast states, NEEP has spent considerable time tracking the various provisions of the stimulus funding (ARRA) and analyzing the how funding relates to region. This document is targeted to cities, towns and states that are in the process of applying for or utilizing federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) funds, as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
