Many companies use more energy than necessary because energy efficiency is not integrated into daily management practices. Strategic Energy Management (SEM) is a general term for a structured, long-term management plan to make cultural changes resulting in continual improvements in energy performance.  ISO 50001 is an international standard on best practices in energy management. Superior Energy Management or SEP is a DOE-sponsored certification program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) that adds an energy performance improvement target to ISO 50001 requirements.  The SEM/ISO 50001 and SEP introductory curriculum is designed to introduce industrial and large commercial customers, as well as utility program administrators, to the basic principles of SEM along with an  introduction to the more robust ISO 50001 and SEP elements.  Participants will be introduced to the DOE EGuide; which is a comprehensive, step-by-step online toolkit to implement foundational SEM, ISO 50001 and SEP.
