NEEP’s 2017 Strategic Electrification Summit brought together public officials, energy and air regulators, industry, and advocates to discuss recent research regarding opportunities and pathways associated with electrifying those segments of our building stock, transportation sector, and industry that are currently on direct use of fossil fuels. The Northeast’s unique dependence on fossil fuels and combination of policy leadership to reduce carbon emissions, climate vulnerability, and infrastructure position it well to be a national leader in the shift toward economy-wide decarbonization enabled, in part, by energy efficiency strategic electrification. But questions remain: “What are the opportunities, benefits and challenges of strategic electrification?” and “How do we get there from here?”
