Does policy shape the direction of the energy industry, or is it the other way around? As you’ll find out in this three-hour discussion on energy policies and efficiency programs, the answer is both. But two things are certain. First the electric utility is hurtling toward unavoidable change – a result of increasing penetration of DERs, new business models, and changing customer expectations. Second, in facing these changes, policies are either leading the way or reacting to it. We will examine how policies are impacting energy efficiency across the country and in some cases spearheading change, such as the New York REV. We will discuss policy as it relates to the challenges of the times, including grid modernization, the utility business model and the increasing role of solar.
