Since 2000, Price Chopper has actively pursued the implementation of energy efficiency measures at more than eight of its supermarkets across New York State. Through collaboration with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), Price Chopper has been able to reduce waste and energy consumption while improving its bottom line. The long-term partnership between NYSERDA and Price Chopper demonstrates a shared commitment to energy efficiency and a sustainable future.
Some of the efficiency improvements made at Price Chopper stores include:
- High efficiency lighting
- High efficiency transformers
- High efficiency HVAC systems
- Efficient refrigeration systems
NYSERDA is currently assisting Price Chopper design a new supermarket prototype to meet LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards, and to significantly improve the energy efficiency of the building. In addition, Price Chopper is working closely with NYSERDA to design and construct their new 240,000 sq.ft. headquarters to meet LEED certification requirements and to be one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the State.
In 2006, Price Chopper was recognized as an ENERGY STAR Leader by complying and meeting the requirements of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Superior Portfolio-Wide Energy Performance.
