The industrial sector accounts for more than 30% of all energy consumed in the United States, and for manufacturers, energy costs always impact overall competitiveness.
Investments to reduce energy use through more efficient manufacturing processes and facilities through the expanded use of combined heat and power (CHP) can improve the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing, lower energy costs, free up future capital for businesses to invest, reduce air pollution, and create jobs.
To address these challenges, the U.S. Department of Energy, in coordination with the State and Local Energy Efficiency Action Network (SEE Action) Industrial Energy Efficiency and CHP Working Group, and the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, is hosting a regional dialogue meeting that brings together key stakeholders to focus on developing and implementing state best practice policies and investment models that address the multiple barriers to greater investment in industrial energy efficiency and CHP.
Building on the August 30, 2012, Executive Order: Accelerating Investment in Industrial Energy Efficiency, this dialogue meeting will focus on industrial energy efficiency and CHP successes, opportunities, and new approaches-all with an eye toward state policy, including the role of ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs.
