AFC Cable Systems, Inc. (AFC) is a leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of electric distribution products including pre-wired armored and metal clad cables, flexible wiring systems, flexible metal, non-metallic and flexible metallic liquid-tight conduits and fittings. AFC works in a highly competitive market and is committed to producing high-quality products with energy efficiency and cost effectiveness in mind.
In 2009 AFC worked in partnership with NSTAR to complete two projects aimed to increase energy efficiency at its 202,000 square foot manufacturing facility in New Bedford, MA. First, the Company replaced 476 metal halide lamps with high-efficiency T5 fluorescent lamps for an estimated annual cost savings of $50,000. AFC participated in NSTAR’s Construction Solutions Program, an initiative developed to provide commercial businesses with cash incentives for integrating energy efficient technologies into renovations and new construction, when it retrofitted the motors and drives used in the manufacturing of their cable. The Company replaced its electronic drives and low efficiency large motors with premium efficiency motors and drives; a step that increases speed and production and enables AFC to shut excess capacity.
With an eye towards efficiency, AFC engineers and personnel routinely check all of the manufacturing facility’s equipment to ensure proper operation and take steps to correct any problems in order to keep AFC’s production lines running efficiently and cost-effectively.
