Networked Geothermal is Having a Moment: Examples from the Northeast
Networked geothermal is making headlines in the Northeast with cities and towns such as Boston, MA announcing new projects for multifamily buildings. The increase in available federal funding is a key driver these projects, but how can we ensure that these opportunities will be effective, impactful, and scalable? In this session, we will discuss best practices for networked geothermal multifamily applications, pulling from examples in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. Speakers will highlight wins and challenges within their own projects, while opening the floor to a larger discussion on fostering equitable outcomes and transitioning gas workers to form local geothermal workforces.

The Role of Building Decarbonization in Optimizing Our Grid
With commitments to economy-wide decarbonization come needs to build a flexible, clean grid that optimizes energy use and increases deployment of distributed energy resources to ensure that the transition is affordable, equitable, and cost-efficient. Buildings, which have historically been viewed largely as “the problem,” can also be viewed as part of the solution to this challenge. Grid-interactive buildings can shed, shift, or modulate energy use in response to grid conditions. In this session, we’ll hear from key regional and industry stakeholders as we discuss emerging issues, challenges, and opportunities to develop and scale demand flexible, grid interactive efficient buildings in support of a clean power grid.

The Missing Link: Software Solutions to Facilitate BPS Reporting and Compliance
Successful building performance standards require secure and easy transfer of data. This session will explore some of the challenges jurisdictions have faced with respect to data integrity and creating a Unique Building Identifier List. Panelists will explore different software solutions that can streamline BPS programs. The session will preview a few of the available software solutions that make BPS feasible, including EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (ESPM) and The Building Energy Analysis Manager (BEAM). Speakers will highlight ways in which these tools make data collection, analysis, reporting, tracking, and compliance easier while also reviewing technical assistance offered by EPA and DOE.
