Lexington, MA, October 2, 2013 – DesignLights Consortium® (DLC) has announced the addition of five new commercial-sector Solid State Lighting product categories to its Qualified Products List (QPL) and an expansion of the Retrofit Kits policy.
The QPL features cutting edge lighting products that meet the DLC’s strict energy efficiency, quality, and performance specifications. Being listed on the QPL allows products to be considered for incentives by energy efficiency programs throughout the US and Canada.
New categories include linear indoor ambient lighting -- including suspended-mounted linear commercial lighting and surface-mounted industrial strip lights -- and two foot linear replacement lamps. The expansion of the retrofit kit policy includes new styles of reference luminaires, including lantern- and teardrop-style decorative outdoor luminaires, larger shoebox and round-area luminaires, and expanded styles of fixtures for fuel pump canopies.
With these additions, the DLC QPL is now home to thirty seven product categories and products may be submitted for qualification in the new application categories immediately.
The DesignLights Consortium Qualified Products List guides users to present or select good quality, high performing LED lighting equipment. “Efficiency program managers, LED luminaire manufacturers and designers of commercial lighting systems rely on the DLC, so it must be kept up to date,” says Jon Linn, Commercial Programs Manager at NEEP. “This development of new categories does just that. As the market for this exciting new technology grows, we keep pace, and continue to build the comprehensiveness, integrity and widespread use of this resource.”
Launched in October 2009 and managed by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP), the DLC QPL (www.designlights.org) is a listing of independently verified high efficiency lighting products. It provides a resource for utilities and energy efficiency program administrators to access qualified products to be considered for their incentive programs as well as for over 430 luminaire manufacturers who rely on QPL listing for a market advantage. The DLC QPL provides a central place to which manufacturers can submit their product specifications and if qualified, can be considered for many incentive programs throughout the U.S. and Canada. On October 2 at 1pm EST and October 8 at 2pm EST DLC will host webinars on the newly introduced DLC QPL categories for industry stakeholders, to register for the webinar on October 2, click here and to register for the webinar on October 8, click here.
Earlier this year, DLC completed its annual specification revision process during which all existing categories’ specification values were updated. This review considered recent improvements to LED lighting equipment, such as energy efficiency, color properties, and other changes. DLC published the revised specifications in the first week of April 2013, starting the clock for a 270-day grace period which will end on January 1, 2014 when all products that no longer meet the new and revised specifications will no longer appear on the DLC QPL.
