LaNaria Barnes is a seasoned financial professional with a broad background in accounting across banking, retail, higher education, and nonprofit sectors. Originally from New York, she has been a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina since 2007, where she has continued to build a career in financial leadership.

As Senior Director of Business Administration, LaNaria provides comprehensive administrative and financial oversight for the organization. Her responsibilities include leading accounting, budgeting, auditing, and operational activities for NEEP, ensuring strong fiscal stewardship and organizational sustainability.

In 2016, LaNaria discovered her passion for nonprofit finance while working within the sector, prompting a purposeful career transition. Since then, she has remained committed to advancing the mission-driven work of nonprofit organizations through financial management and strategic leadership. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Hampton University and an MBA from Hofstra University. Most recently, she earned her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential, further strengthening her expertise and professional impact.

Outside of her professional endeavors, LaNaria cherishes spending time with her husband and sons. She enjoys running, solving puzzles, and watching medical dramas. Guided by a personal philosophy rooted in joy, love, laughter, and humility, she strives to bring balance and authenticity to every aspect of her life.

LaNaria draws inspiration from a quote by Simone Biles, which reminds her to celebrate every step taken toward a goal rather than waiting until the destination to acknowledge progress. 
 

Q: Name one thing you cannot live without.
A: Candy.

Q: If you could spend one week anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?

A: Egypt. It's been a childhood dream I hope to fulfill one day.


Q: What's something about you that would surprise people?
A: I went from PreK to first grade - I skipped over kindergarten.
