State Policies

In late 2012, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed Executive Order No. 88, which establishes a target of reducing average energy use intensity (EUI) in state-owned and managed buildings by 20% relative to a fiscal year 2010/2011 baseline by April 1, 2020.  It also requires annual benchmarking of all state owned or managed buildings over 20,000 sq ft, ASHRAE Level II energy audits for any low performing buildings, and prioritizes sub metering for buildings larger than 100,000 sq ft.

NYSERDA and the New York State Education Department have drafted their own version of CHPS which can be read, in full, here. This is a voluntary green building guideline, and if followed, NYSERDA can provide additional funding based on the level of CHPS adherence.

Grants & Rebates

National Grid, PSEG Long Island, Central Hudson, ConEd, National Fuel, NYSEG, Orange and Rockland, and RG&E run a diverse array of energy efficiency programs in New York, as further detailed on the website.  Interested parties should also contact NYSERDA regarding any incentives they may offer.
