NEEP Summit Celebration in the New Hampshire White Mountains
NEEP invites you to join in some special organized events for Summit attendees.
Franconia notch bike ride: Cancelled due to weather conditions
The bike ride is cancelled due to weather conditions.
Before diving into this substantive regional dialogue and kicking off our Summit/Anniversary weekend, we invite attendees to enjoy the springtime glory of the White Mountains with colleagues and friends by joining us Sunday, June 12, for our bike event The Ride to the Summit from Woodstock, NH to the Omni Mount Washington Hotel.
The 2016 Summit Ride: This ride is just under 29 miles with a total of 1,300 feet of climbing, including 8.8 miles on the Franconia Notch recreational path for 800 feet. The ride is of moderate difficulty and includes rest stops along the way to take in the spectacular scenery and purchase light snacks. It will be led by experienced White Mountain road cyclist, ride-leader and bike mechanic – Colin Eggleton. The ride will conclude at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel in plenty of time to enjoy the welcome BBQ. See the road map below for route and terrain information. Riders are responsible for their own gear – bike, helmet, etc. (see detailed list below) as well as food/beverage costs. We will provide a detailed cycling itinerary, technical support and a car to carry gear (and bikers if need be).
8:30 Meet-Up and 9:00 Ride: We will meet-up at 8:30 a.m. at the public parking lot behind Truant’s Tavern, 96 Main Street, Woodstock to get acquainted, collect release forms, check equipment and review the riding course. We plan to roll at 9:00 a.m. We expect the ride will take approximately 3.5–4.5 hours including a lunch stop. We will organize a car pool from the Omni Mount Washington Hotel leaving at 7:45 a.m. to minimize the number of vehicles to retrieve from Woodstock. The ride is dependent on reasonably good weather (i.e., we will cancel the ride in the event of significant rain).
Registration: We welcome Summit participants, NEEP sponsors, partners, friends and their families to join us for this beautiful spring bike ride. We hope to gather folks from all over the industry to roll to the Summit as an energy efficiency peloton. It’s not quite the Tour De France, but New Hampshire has some unique charm all its own! To join us, please register for the bike ride. Also, before you ride download the liability release form here. Bring that with you signed and ready to go. Once you register, we’ll be in touch with you with further information.
Bike Gear List: To join the ride, you must bring a tuned bike in good condition sized for you and ready for the hills with a wide range of gears including low gears for steep sections. Also bring with you spare inner tubes and repair kit, a helmet, sunglasses, gloves, light wind proof jacket, water bottle(s) and money for snacks. We strongly encourage that you wear padded biking shorts, a jersey of breathable, wicking fabric (yes, we’ll be breaking a sweat!) and sunscreen.
June 5 Warm-up Ride (Lexington Center-Concord-Bedford-Carlisle Loop): Cancelled to do rain.

Guided Hikes
The White Mountains never fail to provide amazing hikes that offer scenic views, fresh air, plenty of convenient rest stops (or not) as needed.
Advanced hikers: We’re so pleased to announce Senator Jeb Bradley will lead an early morning hike on Sunday, June 12 for up to 20 NEEP Summit participants. The Senator will lead the group to hike Mt. Eisenhower by way of Edmand’s Path, with the option to hike over to Mt. Pierce, in order "to bag two peaks". Please wear appropriate outfit and shoes. You may find details on the trail here.
Join us at 8:00 a.m. in the hotel lobby. NEEP will organize transportation to include drop off & pick-up, carpooling between the participants is encouraged. Please bring your lunch with you (the Omni Mount Washington Resort offers lunch boxes if needed).
Moderate and Beginner hikers: The NEEP staff will guide two different hikes: the Mount Willard trail and the Arethusa Falls trail. A relatively easy hike to Mount Willard rewards you with close-up views of Crawford Notch, rounded out with views of many more mountains farther in the distance. The Mount Willard trail is a 3.2 miles (2-2 ½ hours) easy to moderate trail. You can find more information and a map here. The Arethusa Falls drop nearly 200 feet and are the highest falls in New Hampshire. The trail is a 2.6 miles (2 hours) moderate trail. You can find more information and a trail map here.
Join us at 12:45 p.m. in the hotel lobby for a group departure. NEEP will not offer transportation but encourage the hikers to do carpooling. Please wear appropriate outfit and shoes as the trails can be muddy.
Registration: If you are interested in joining one of these three hikes, please check the hike option in your registration or send an email to lcarriou@neep.org. Before you hike, download the liability release form here. Bring that with you signed and ready to go. Once you register, we’ll be in touch with you with further information.
Caution: Those hikes are subject to changes due to weather conditions. The registered participants will be kept informed by email. Please wear warm cloths, wool socks and hiking shoes as the weather conditions might be cold and wet.
