Tasneem joined NEEP in the summer of 2022 as a Building Energy Codes associate. In that role, she develops resources, provides technical assistance, and conducts research on codes and standards in states and municipalities in the NEEP region. Additionally, she follows and tracks the progress of building energy efficiency legislation and development in the NEEP region.

Prior to joining NEEP, Tasneem co-founded Unity Coalition Movement (UCM) in 2019, a community-based organization dedicated to unity in the development of sustainable liberation. The organization currently focuses on issues of environmental justice, such as: the abolition of food apartheids, sustainable agricultural studies and practice, and nutritional insecurity research and advocacy. She currently serves as the Co-Executive Director and is working closely with Ujamaa Farms as part of the Cooperative Farming Alliance.

Tasneem recently completed her role as a research assistant for the Center for Environment, Community and Equity at American University (AU), where she further developed her passions of environmental justice. She received her Bachelor of Arts from the School of International Service (AU) in May 2022, majoring in international studies. Her primary concentration is in Environmental Sustainability and Global health with a secondary concentration in Global Inequality and Development.

 

Q: Name one thing you cannot live without.

A: Noise cancelling headphones. :)

A: The Beggar by Naguib Mahfouz & Farming While Black by Leah Penniman

Q: What is something about you that would surprise people?

A: I love styling and designing clothes, in my free time I teach myself sewing methods and techniques.
