2014 Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit Hits Newport

One of region’s premier energy efficiency events features new Power Talks on scaling up efficiency in a low-carbon future

Lexington, MA, May 30, 2014Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) will host its annual Northeast Energy Efficiency Summit in Newport, RI on June 2-3, 2014. This year’s event, titled “The Low-Carbon Future: Scaling Up Energy Efficiency in a Brave, New, Dynamic World” will be at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island and will bring together some of the industry’s brightest minds who are working on paving the way to a low-carbon future using energy efficiency.

The Summit, co-chaired by Rhode Island Commissioner of Energy Resources Marion Gold and National Grid Rhode Island President Tim Horan, will bring together over 300 people to share ideas, network, and learn about how energy efficiency acts as a cornerstone of sustainable energy policy which, in turn, works to achieve a cleaner environment and more reliable and affordable energy system. New to the program this year is a series of NEEP Power Talks designed to engage the audience, spur discussion, build partnerships, and inspire action around paving the way to a low-carbon future using energy efficiency.

On June 2, there will be three workshops on topics covering air source heat pumps, zero net energy buildings, and evaluation and measurement of energy efficiency. Afterward, participants will see exactly why Rhode Island is a leader in the green schools movement with a tour of two high performance schools (Claiborne Pell Elementary School and The East Bay Met School). A Welcome Reception at the International Tennis Hall of Fame will cap off the opening day.

On June 3, the Opening Keynote will be delivered by Gene Rodrigues, Vice President of ICF International. The NEEP Power Talks will feature a wide variety of speakers. They are:

  • Abigail Anthony, Rhode Island Director, Environment Northeast
  • Ann Berwick, Chair, MA Department of Public Utilities
  • Bennett Fisher, CEO and Co-Founder, Retroficiency
  • Scott Johnstone, Executive Director, Vermont Energy Investment Corporation
  • Matthias Kurwig, Co-Founder, Enervee
  • Penni McLean Conner, Senior Vice President & Chief Customer Officer, Northeast Utilities
  • Carl Spector, Director of Climate and Environmental Planning, City of Boston
  • Ed White, Vice President, Customer Strategy & Environmental, National Grid

Between Power Talk sessions, there will be a luncheon at which the 2014 Northeast Business Leaders for Energy Efficiency will be honored for their commitment and leadership to energy efficiency. This year's honorees, made up of manufacturers, hotels, hospitals, research institutions, and other regional and global businesses, were selected based on their success in capturing energy savings, address comprehensive changes in major energy systems, improving energy performance, and promoting the benefits of energy efficiency to the wider community.
