Lexington, MA October 18, 2013 - Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) has issued a comprehensive guide for anyone involved with the operation and maintenance of public buildings: facility managers, public works directors, maintenance directors and more.
The guide is written in an accessible, jargon-free style, and covers everything from building envelope efficiency to vehicle anti-idling policies, and procurement to water conservation.
“NEEP recognized that facility managers are looking for clear, comprehensive, actionable recommendations for reducing energy usage and improving the workplace environment, soup to nuts,” said Jim O’Reilly, NEEP’s Director of Public Policy. “We have designed this guide with them in mind.”
“The NEEP Operations & Maintenance Guide is an excellent resource,” noted Karen Verrengia, Energy Manager for Cranston, RI Public Schools. “It has helped Cranston Public Schools understand and make improvements to our buildings. We knew we were doing a great job in terms of our energy savings, but the guide has helped us identify additional ways to save. The NEEP O&M Guide should be required reading for all maintenance personnel.”
The guide contains operations and maintenance procedures that will help buildings reduce their operating costs, as well as lead to healthier indoor air, improved student and staff comfort, reduced water consumption, improved environmental stewardship, and overall improvements in the learning environment.
“Operations and management procedures targeted at energy efficiency can save 5 to 20 percent on a building’s energy bills,” notes Carolyn Sarno, NEEP Senior Program Manager for High Performance Buildings. “These savings can total up to hundreds of thousands dollars annually, and many can be achieved at no to little cost.”
