Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships Can Provide Comment on Regional State Rankings in ACEEE State Energy Efficiency Scorecard

WHAT: On October 22, 2014, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) released its annual State Energy Efficiency Scorecard that will, for the eighth consecutive year, rank states on their adoption of policies that encourage energy efficiency. This annual benchmark ranks states on their policy and program efforts, and recommends ways that states can improve their energy efficiency performance in various policy areas.

States in NEEP’s service area are ranked as follows: Massachusetts (1), Vermont (3), Rhode Island (3), Connecticut (6), New York (7), Maryland (9), Maine (16), New Jersey (19), Pennsylvania (20), District of Columbia (21), New Hampshire (22), Delaware (25).

WHO: NEEP, one of six Regional Energy Efficiency Organizations (REEOs) as designated by the U.S. Department of Energy to work collaboratively with them in linking states in our respective regions to DOE guidance and resources, serves the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. NEEP experts are available to discuss the scorecard as it relates to performance of states in its region. For the fourth year in a row, Massachusetts is the top-ranked state, while six states landed in the top 10, exemplifying the region’s leadership in energy efficiency. The NEEP team of experts can speak to the following state policies and programs on which ACEEE based its rankings in the scorecard. They are:

·         Utility and public benefits programs and policies

·         Transportation policies

·         Building energy codes and compliance

·         Combined heat and power (CHP) policies

·         State government-led initiatives around energy efficiency

·         Appliance and equipment standards
