We are a remote-first organization, which allows our employees to work in any of NEEP's 13 states/jurisdictions in the region. The Senior Director, Research and Strategy, is responsible for overseeing annual business planning, program outcomes and metrics, research oversight, product/solutions development, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement. A Day In The Life Of This Role: 
In this role, you will oversee NEEP’s strategy and research development, serve as a lead fundraiser and spokesperson, and provide critical leadership and management for the NEEP team. Examples include:  

Strategy and Research Development

  • Partner with the Executive Director to develop and execute NEEP’s strategic plans, annual business plans, and program outcomes to advance the organization’s mission.  
  • Direct the development, engagement, and delivery of research, products and services that meet NEEP’s goals and the expectations of stakeholders, funders, and NEEP’s Board
  • Demonstrate political savvy and strong understanding of energy, climate, and related policy at the state, local, and regional level
  • Leverage deep subject matter expertise across energy, climate, environmental, housing and affordability policy to achieve organizational goals
  • Oversee high-quality research and provide thought leadership to NEEP’s audiences through blog posts, publications, and presentations.
     

Fundraising and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead fundraising and business development, in partnership with the Executive Director and Grants Manager, to execute research and strategic initiatives
  • Cultivate productive and valued relationships with existing and prospective funders
  • Develop and pursue opportunities for collaboration with trusted partners
  • Work with Strategic Marketing and Communications (SMC) team to work with a vibrant regional network of leaders and participants to inform and advance NEEP’s mission and goals through research, policy support, and events
  • Facilitate stakeholder and participant feedback to guide planning and research
  • Represent NEEP at public and professional meetings and presentations
     

Leadership and Management

  • Serve as a dynamic leader to drive regional-scale adoption of energy efficiency solutions that lower costs and emissions and improve reliability and affordability in support of state and local policy goals
  • Lead, develop, and retain NEEP’s program staff to achieve goals with high levels of staff satisfaction and engagement, inspiring a shared vision of NEEP’s mission
  • Create an inclusive environment and positive culture to engage staff, recognize and communicate achievements, and foster individual/collective accountability and teamwork
  • Manage resources and budgets to achieve positive financial performance; Oversee programs to achieve financial goals
  • Serve on the Senior Management Team and serve as staff liaison to the Board of Directors Strategy and Impact Committee

 

What We Need From You:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience and subject matter expertise in energy efficiency and related fields such as energy policy, climate policy, utility regulation, housing policy, and consumer advocacy.  
  • Advanced degree in related field
  • Strong reputation in the industry to lead coalitions and facilitate industry leaders.
  • Strong relationships with industry partners, foundations, and state and local policymakers.
  • Broad understanding of growth in industry segments, trends, and emerging practices.
  • Ability to provide visionary leadership, inspiring and guiding the team toward successful achievement of strategic goals.
  • Superb financial and human capital management skills.
  • Results driven toward superb levels of accountability, customer service, decisiveness, entrepreneurship, problem solving, and technical credibility.
  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of NEEP.
  • Nonprofit and/or government experience preferred.  
  • Demonstrated track record of leading with transparency and collaboration  


Salary Range: The salary for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience, offering a salary range of $150,000-$170,000.

Applicants must reside in one of NEEP's 13 states/jurisdictions in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia).

The position is exempt and scheduled for 40 hours per week although additional hours including evenings and weekends may be required.

NEEP is a remote office and offers employees a flexible schedule.
