For the second year in a row, a growing network of advocates, companies, government agencies, utilities, and others from across the country will join to showcase the benefits of energy efficiency. The message of Energy Efficiency Day is simple: Save energy. Save money.

I’m not going to talk about Elon Musk’s newest adventures in electric vehicles (or trips to Mars) or the latest groundbreaking efforts of New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision proceeding. Instead, I’m going to spend the next 600 words praising energy efficiency – the unsung hero of the clean energy world.

New York has some of the region’s most aggressive energy efficiency programs, and is now in the midst of an ambitious set of initiatives aimed at “Reforming the Energy Vision.” As the state tackles complex issues of new utility models and a changing view of state, utility and market roles, NEEP is watching closely to ensure there is a continuing and prominent role for energy efficiency — the least-cost resource.
