The Scouts’ motto of “Be Prepared” may be old, but it’s still relevant in today’s world. Prepared for what? Well, the motto means being in a state of readiness for anything that comes along, being willing and able to tackle whatever is needed.

When I think of today’s changing energy efficiency landscape, I feel as though I am riding a rollercoaster. The paradigm-shifting developments in New York and California for example, are turning my preconceived notions of energy efficiency upside down – as if I was on some Universal Studios thrill ride.  

Over 500 evaluators, regulators, program administrators, students, and other interested stakeholders from across the U.S. and other nations descended on Chicago in August for the International Energy Program Evaluation Conference (IEPEC).

While many states in our region are national leaders in energy efficiency, there is always room for improvement as efficiency policies are increasingly central to state’s overall policy goals.

The pace never slows at the Regional Evaluation Measurement &Verification Forum.  In addition to conducting several ongoing projects, the Forum is launching two new projects - the HVAC Variable Speed Drive (VSD) Loadshape project and the Building Energy Codes project - and further developing it Regional Energy Efficiency Database (REED).

NEEP's  Evaluation, Measurement & Verification (EM&V) Forum has recently completed two large research and evaluation projects.  The results of these studies advance energy efficiency by supporting program administrator calculations of savings from efficient lighting and unitary HVAC equipment and also serving as documentation for submissions to the region’s forward capacity markets.
